Y-Wing Starfighter

This is intended to be Colonel Horton Salm's personal starfighter.

Parts: POTF2 Y-wing fighter. The decals were set aside. The pilot was replaced with my own custom Horton Salm figure.

Supplies: X-acto knife, emery board, file, super glue, brushes, Testors paints and Testors Dull-Cote.

Reference: I used reference pictures from Dark Horse's X-Wing: Rogue Squadron comics.

First, I cut the cockpit canopy and windscreen in half. The front portion was glued in place, so that only the middle part opens and closes. This is the way it functioned in the films. The inside of the cockpit was painted black and grey, with special care give to avoid messing up the stickers for the pilot's controls.

The ship's yellow markings were left alone because my reference pictures indicated that they were already correct. The landing gear was painted "steel" and then given a dark wash. A few of the access panels were painted a slightly different color than the ship itself to indicate that they had been replaced. A lot of the edges were drybrushed with aluminum-colored paint to show where paint had been chipped off. The proton torpedo was painted white with a yellow nosecone. The entire ship was then given a light coat of Testors Dull-Cote. Several washes of very thinned out black paint were applied to show oil leaks and general wear & tear. Scratches were made with a hobby knife and then filled in with aluminum-colored paint. Scorches were applied with a butane lighter. Testors Dull-Cote was applied liberally to every part of the ship, except the cockpit windscreen.
