Chewbacca (First Mate of the Millennium Falcon)

Born on Kashyyyk, Chewbacca excelled the various hand-to-hand combat skills a Wookiee is taught, and also developed a great deal of mechanical aptitude. Around the age of 80, he left Kashyyyk to explore the stars. For many years, he answered to no one but himself, until the Empire declared Wookiees a slave commodity. He was captured and imprisoned, spending many years doing hard labor for the Empire. Chewie was rescued by an Imperial Naval Officer named Han Solo. Chewie claimed a life-debt to Han, and the two fled Imperial observation and began living underground as smugglers. He and Han had many adventures during the 15 years prior to taking on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker for passage to Alderaan.

Parts: Head (Mechanic Chewbacca), Torso (Mechanic Chewbacca), Arms (Mechanic Chewbacca), Legs (Mechanic Chewbacca), Bowcaster (Flashback Chewbacca).
Supplies: X-acto knife, super glue, Super Sculpey, file or emery board, brushes, Testors paints and Testors Dull-Cote.
Reference: Photo stills from Star Wars: A New Hope and Bowcaster technical drawings from the Essential Guide to Weapons & Technology.
Step One: Using the X-acto knife, I cut off Chewie's hand at the wrist. I reattached it with super glue at an angle that will allow him to hold the Bowcaster with both hands. I used a bit of Super Sculpey to add a little bit of fur around the area of the cut to hide it. I then used a stylus to give the fur more texture. I cured the Super Sculpey using the boiling water method.
Step Two: I painted the figure according to the reference. I added a bit of that dark grey around his arms and knees. It might have been just my figure, but there wasn't as much of it present as there should have been.
Step Three: I modified the Bowcaster to more closely resemble the one in the Essential Guide to Weapons & Technology. The Bowcaster was then painted with varying shades of gun-metal.
Step Four: Finally, I applied a coat of Testors Dull-Cote to protect the paint and remove the shine.
