Diorama: Speeder Bike Chase on Endor

This diorama is intended to re-create the scene in Return of the Jedi where Luke Skywalker eliminates the last of the Imperial Biker Scouts that he and Princess Leia encounter.

Parts: A sheet of plywood 6 inches wide by 18 inches long, a package of green colored lichen, a package of model railroad trees, one long nail, POTF2 Speeder Bike, Speeder Bike pack-in Biker Scout and Speeder Bike pack-in Luke Skywalker.

Supplies: X-acto knife, super glue, Elmer's glue, Testors Dull-Cote, Paints and Brushes.

Reference: Photo stills from Return of the Jedi.

The base was done by painting the sheet of plywood earth brown. Then, I painted the base with many different greens and browns using the dry-brush technique.

The bushes are made from lichen, purchased from the local model railroad shop. They were simply glued down in random places using the Elmer's glue. The trees were pre-made for model railroad dioramas, and were purchased at the same place. They were glued down to the base using Super glue.

The Luke figure was heavily modified. The arms were cut and re-positioned to hold the lightsaber with two hands. The boots were dry-brushed with brown to appear "forest-dirtied". Luke's poncho and one side of his pants were dry-brushed with brown to show the dirt where he was thrown from his Speeder Bike. The Biker Scout got minor highlight painting and had his boots dry-brushed with brown to appear "forest-dirtied". The entire Speeder Bike was then dry-brushed with steel-colored paint to show wear.

The Speeder Bike was suspended "in flight" by driving a long nail through the bottom of the base and mounting the Bike on top of it.

The entire diorama and both figures were sprayed liberally with Testors Dull-Cote to seal the paint and remove shine.
