C.I.S. Combat Troops

Although the most recognized combat forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems were Battle Droids and Super Battle Droids, many systems contributed live troops to the Separatist war effort. Zy Bultman and Kor Snivs were part of a unit commanded by Garm Krandall that was tasked with defending Prairsuno.

Parts: Head (Various), Torso (Cale from Titan A.E.), Arms (Cale from Titan A.E.), Legs (Cale from Titan A.E.), Helmet (Jedi Training Armor Obi-Wan Kenobi), Weapons (Various).
Supplies: Super Sculpey, X-acto knife, emery board or file, super glue, paints, brushes and Testors Dull-Cote.
Reference: This figure was derived entirely from my own imagination. My idea was that these troops would be outfitted with light green jumpsuits, over which they would attach lightweight armor plates. Their weaponry is the same as that of the droid combat units.
Step One: I removed the Cale head and then repositioned the arms before spray-painting the figures using a very light green color. When they weredry, I sprayed them lightly with Testors Dull-Cote before applying the other colors.
Step Two: The armor plates were all painted a steel color. The webbing straps that hold the armor plates in place were painted a brown color to simulate leather.
Step Three: The new heads were attached and the helmets was glued into place. The back part of the helmets were cut away and replaced using Super Sculpey. After curing, the helmets were painted in the same sceme as the armor. The faceplates were painted a very shiny gold (a nod to the helmets seen in the Halo video games).
Step Four: Once the figures were dry, I applied a very light misting of grey paint to simulate dust and then applied a coat of Testors Dull-Cote.

  1. I wouldn't use the battle droid weaponry. There are entries that state that the barrels of their carbines overheat and over time are the reason why only droids use them. Living beings would have a great deal more freedom to use whatever weapons they want. It sort of became an interesting part of the Clone Wars EU to see which sort of fringe character was helping them out based on the weapons signature. Also, check out some of the galleries of the miniatures at www.wizards.com because occassionaly there are CIS humanoid soldiers such as scouts and other specialties made.

  2. Paul, I didn't know any of that! Although, I will admit that because these guys are basically background characters (cannon-fodder) for my Prairsuno diorama, I probably did not give them the attention they deserved.
